Walk Description: From the Waggon & Horses pub, head W along the A616 for 120 m, then turn left onto the signed footpath descending to the reservoir outflow. Cross the footbridge and bear Wwest on the main track skirting the north shore of Langsett Reservoir (1). Follow the well-defined forestry track through mixed woodland, keeping to the principal west-bearing line as it rises gradually past Swinden Brook and continues to the fork beneath Crookland Wood. At the junction, turn left onto the bridleway and begin the sustained ascent to Mickleden Edge (2). The track is clear underfoot, climbing steadily to reach open moorland with extensive views across Midhope Moors (3). Maintain the SE-bearing line as the bridleway descends, keeping to the main Cut Gate path until reaching the ford and footbridge at North America Bridge (4). Cross the stream and turn left, following the stone-surfaced path rising beneath Hingcliff Hill. This path maintains a generally east bearing contour, tracking above the reservoir’s southern shore with intermittent minor stream crossings. Continue to the forest edge near Thickwoods and join the vehicle track headingeast toward Langsett. Pass the buildings at the reservoir’s east end and cross the dam wall. At the far side, follow the lane north into Langsett village and return directly to the Waggon & Horses pub. Surfaces alternate between forestry track, moorland bridleway, and stone-paved sections; navigation remains straightforward in clear weather, with line-of-sight features evident throughout.
