Walk Description:
From Netherthong primary school, head north down the narrow alley along side the school, cross Dean Brook Road, pass the Cricketers Arms and the Cider Press, following the Holme Valley Circular (HVC) path northwards across the fields towards Honley.  Cross the Oldfield Road and Long Lane entering Honley down Stony Lane turning left and right along Roundway to Jaggar Lane, passing the recreation fields and primary school to Lane Head roundabout. Cross Westgate here and walk down Thirstin Road all the way round to where the road crosses Mag Brook. Just after crossing the bridge take the track to the left climbing up to Netherton Moor Road (with the option for a detour to visit Hinchliffes Farm Shop for a sandwich, pie or meal). Here take the westward track along the top of Netherton Bank via Scar Top Lane westwards through Spring Wood to Hill Top.  Enjoy the scenic views here across the wide valley. Take the steep path on the left down the hill to Lea Lane, crossing over and following a path south west though the fields to Lower Crosland and the new housing development near the old Crosland factory site. Cross back over Mag Brook, along Wood Bottom Road and enter Honley Old Wood (1) . Climb upwards to reach the Meltham Way track and walk south west towards Knowl Top, eventually exiting from the wood at the southern end via a track up to the Meltham Road between Honley and Meltham. Cross over the road and onto a path through the fields leading to Wood Nook Keep on the path through farm to emerge onto Wood Nook Lane. Crossing over Bradshaw Road, continuing on to Upper Oldfield, through the village then down Miry Lane, crossing over Dean Brook and back into Netherthong along Giles Street to the start of the walk at the Primary School.
Other comments and Points of Interest: (1) Honley Old Woodthis woodland is one of West Yorkshire’s largest remaining ancient semi-natural woodland areas. Covering 60 hectares (150 acres), it is an important example of upland oak woodland and is a key part of the local forest habitat network. The wood also contains archaeological features such as Bronze Age and Iron Age burial sites and defensive earthworks.
