Stotts Bus 335 from Holmfirth to Slaithwaite getting off on Slaithwaite Road at Deer Hill End Road, with an 8 min walk to the pub. Journey time about 35 mins. Check bus times.
Walk Description:
From Wills O’Nats pub turn left onto Blackmoorfoot Rd and take first lane on left (Dunnock Rd). The track runs alongside Meltham Cop and gives fine views over Meltham to the south. Reaching road turn right, over a bridge and take footpath on left through Helme Wood. Continue on field path to Helme village, take road left and fork left, continuing straight on from end of lane onto a footpath. Fork left at path junction, into woodland and across lane, climbing onto Crosland Edge. Reaching lane turn right and follow to fork, keep left and follow footpath on left. Path across fields leads to lane which is followed for 100m, then take path on right down through woodland to road. Left on road then fork back right to follow Crosland Factory Lane. Turn right after last factory on right and continue on track to T junction and take track to the right. After 150m take footpath on left and follow through wood for 150m then turn sharp right to follow path through Honley Old Wood (1). Continue across old quarry workings, past a mast and across lane until path reaches road (Honley Rd). Cross road, turn right and after 30m turn left past a poultry farm. Take path straight ahead through Slate Pit Wood and down slope crossing a lane and stream onto a golf course. Head towards club house then pass a car park onto Hollins and a road junction. Follow road down towards Meltham and take Royd Rd on left after “The Woodlands”. Follow to Fox Royd Farm and cottage, leave road and take footpath ahead. On joining lane keep straight on as lane bends right and follow path round buildings on Hebble Lane. Reaching  Calmlands Rd turn sharp left and follow until Bedlam Rd where join road and turn right. After crossing Catchwater Drain join path on left alongside drain. Follow path across Slaithwaite Rd to Blackmoorfoot Rd and left to Wills O’Nats.
Other comments and point of interest: (1) Honley Old Wood features prehistoric archaeological remains like cairns and earthworks. There is evidence of early farming and later industrial use such as coal pits and quarries. It is recognized as a rare example of Pennine oak woodland.
